EGYPTIAN AND OTHER AFRICAN MYTHOLOGIES- ​ARE THERE ANY SIMILARITIES?

The Egyptian mythology shares various similarities with other African mythologies as they all reflect popular themes, beliefs, and cultural practices across the continent.​ The Yoruba people of Nigeria for instance, although originating from different cultures, share several similarities regarding themes, creation and deities especially.​

The Egyptian creation myth involving Atum who emerged from the waters of “Nun” and created the first gods as well as the world. This popular creation myth corresponds with the Yoruba creation belief in the god “Obatala” creating land from the waters as well.​
